What we just might need!

Whenever I do something I feel the Creator would approve of. He slaps me on the shoulder and says 'Atta Boy'. I then looked back and I asked the Lord, what did you mean by that? He responded, 'Duh'

River Run Park in 2019!

Forsyth MO – Feb 22, 2019 - I thought to go for a walk about in River Run Park. It had been a few years since I was able to go there due to sewer construction and a new bridge. I also wanted to visit the Park before is became submerged once again under the waves of Bull Shoals.

River Run had been a very nice park situated to the east of the town of Forsyth Missouri. It contained 31 RV spots with most complete with a covered table and a charcoal grill. Electrical outlets were also available and turned on during the regular camping season. It also sported a jungle gym, a boat launch flush toilets and showers, a waste disposal station and was situated next to Bull Shoals Lake. (There used to be an office there, but it had been removed years ago. And, as I mentioned earlier it's been mostly closed).

A good dry spell would help a lot!

But this year, the Park was open, sort of! At least it would be until flood waters forced it to close, which looks likely in or about March of this year. The phone number for the Park was listed as (417) 546-6637, However I was unsure as to whether it was still working or not.

The good news on this date, was the promise of an extended dry spell commencing around Sunday, Feb 24 that should last until late into the following week.

What a great idea - mutated mosquitoes!

January 4, 2019 - For the first time, researchers have begun large-scale releases of the genetically engineered insects, into a high-security laboratory in Terni, Italy. The insects were custom designed to carry and to inject tiny flesh eating microbes into a target host that would then rapidly multiply and dissolve the host from within.

"This will really be a breakthrough experiment," says Ruth Stooler, an entomologist who runs the lab. It's a historic moment. But, God forbid if they ever got out into the world at large!"

The goal was to see if the mosquitoes could eventually provide a powerful new weapon to help eradicate malaria in Africa, where most cases occur.

"It's very exciting," Mueller says, but warned that the 'very same mosquitoes' still have an appetite for biting humans and livestock as well. She then assured this reporter that the enclosure was perfectly 'fail safe' and that no mosquito could ever get out during the testing phase.

-------------------------------------------------

Reuters - Feb 12, 2019 -  Reports of escaped mutant mosquitoes have been reported and seemed to be rapidly spreading all over southern Italy. The World Health Organization is investigating.

Note: While this story is made up fiction. Researchers are actually messing around with the genetics of an insect that can rapidly spread disease. What could possibly go wrong? The original story released by NPR can be seen by clicking here!

DanO's Place to open soon!

No, that's no ghost inside - it's our jukebox!
Can you believe this place - Sure it looks a bit rough on the outside, but just wait until you step inside. And please don't mind the corpse pictured at left. That customer died of natural causes, we are told!

DanO's Place will be featuring state of the art cuisine, (just as soon as we can find a working stove. For now, all our breakfast offerings are prepared on a Coleman propane camp stove right out back). Fred, our current chef, was recently hired right off the street, and while his cooking skills are still improving, the man seems very eager to please! And then there's Jan, our server, who while being a bit of a closet case, does have two working hands! We are expecting great things out of her.... very soon.

Our hours are currently from 7AM to 11AM Monday thru Friday. We are only serving breakfast, at this time, (as the local building inspector is generally out and about after 11AM). But, we hope to be expanding hours where we will offer the same stuff, just rearranged a bit.

And, will you just look at that menu at right! We've put a lot of time into its composition and in getting it printed up. Wow! We are proud to offer our diners THREE wonderful selections! Well, two actually, as item #3 does require a strong stomach!

Stop by and see us, soon!

NOTICE! In what could be a record - DanO's Place opened at 7:02 AM on a Monday only to be closed at 8:14 AM on the same day, when the building suffered a partial collapse. The single customer was last seen screaming and running down a side street, and apparently did not pay their bill. Also injured during the event was a server who lost one hand. DanO has promised that he will re-open at some point.

Bob Marley! I don't want to wait!

We all wait for good friends to come along in our lives. Some, stick around for a short time, others for a lifetime!  In the stream of time, I remember sitting on a bench off the main drag on highway 51 next to Merlin's bar while listening to Jethro Tull's Aqualung. I foresaw me as an old man even back then. And now, I am very aged. WTF? Thanks do go out to a strong woman Jessi Drud, a woman who viewed me as someone real, well sort of! And yes, I'll never ever again climb the mountains of my youth. But, you want to know what? I'm still a very happy camper this day!

Pasta! On a Diet!! Why not!

Hell yes, pasta is diet cool! (Just so long as you keep the total calories and carbohydrates in line on any given day, you can eat most anything you want to)! Really!

On an otherwise cold and dreary Sunday in February, I elected to mix things up a bit, diet-wise, and have myself some pasta for the midday meal! I was getting pretty bored with the rather bland lunches in the past and wanted to enjoy a steaming plate of Penne lisce along with some steamed broccoli, carrots and a slice garlic toast! The key to this meal-a-deal was to keep the amount of pasta at just 56 grams. Here was what I came up with:

As I saw that the actual weights of the carrots and broccoli were significantly less that what had been calculated in the dietary base, I toned the calories down to 380 and the carbs to 74 grams. With the total for this day being about 1500 and 140 grams respectively. That was well with in the dietary recommendation of institutes like the Mayo Clinic.

[Note that the Mayo Clinic recommended amounts are as follows: 'The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that carbohydrates make up 45 to 65 percent of your total daily calories. So, if you get 2,000 calories a day, between 900 and 1,300 calories should be from carbohydrates. That translates to between 225 and 325 grams of carbohydrates a day.']

So on this day, it was no harm and no foul as I did get to enjoy a real change of pace lunchtime repast! Notes: The glass contained not wine, but rather some flavored water. I also used a butter and salt substitute.

Bobby Vee Thousand Eyes!

A small video tribute going out to us in 2019, where we are all living under lots of prying eyes, as Jussie Smollett recently learned!

Even as I penned this blog, the beliefs of millions of Americans lie in philological trash cans in most cities and towns. Trust in the mass media lies broken. A People stand apart. Our government silent...

The time of the micro journalist begins.

How I planned to survive a low carb diet?

The question before me, on an early day in February 2019, was pretty easy for me to understand. Did I really want to lose some weight? Yes! Fuck yes I did! Now, the real question that I needed to figure out was...how?

The goal, for moi, was pretty easy to visualize. I wanted to quickly drop from 200 romping stomping pounds, down to a more svelte 175! I wanted to take a few steps outside and not feel like I was passing out. I wanted to feel good... I wanted... Fuck it, I just wanted to fit inside my clothes again!

After reading a book or two, I finally began to understand the concept that carbs were very possibly at the foundation of my weight problem. Yes, carbohydrates, a form of food (breads, potatoes, pastries, etc) that once ingested, were quickly turned into glucose with any remaining junk headed for the fat assemble machinery down around my waist! In a younger body, most of that glucose is efficiently burned, while in my oldie and moldy body, not so much so. I'd merely hit a sugar high, followed by a crash that left me wanting even more junk and sugary food. And, let me tell you, being hungry all the time, doesn't end too well!

So, I began eating lots of meat, eggs and assorted veggies.  At right is a nutritional breakout of a lunch time repast consisting of chicken breast, mushrooms, broccoli and carrots - all steamed to perfection and tasting great!

So, that was lunch. For most breakfasts, I planned to have an egg on toast (OMG) along with a couple of strips of bacon which are carbohydrate free! And, after those two meals, I like to enjoy a bowl of cereal and milk for dinner. Sure there were some carbs in that, but in the end, I had stayed int the under 60 grams per day level that worked to help shed the pounds!

The real question was one of effectiveness. I began my low carbohydrate approach on the first of February and plan to post a followup on the 15th! Stay turned!
