Dollar tacos offered at local restaurant!

Two tacos, two bucks!
Forsyth MO. - During Happy Hour, which runs from 2PM to 6PM Monday through Friday, Charlie's Ribs Steak and Ale located at Hwy 160 and Y, offers up tacos (both hard and soft) for only a buck a throw! At least, that's my understanding - the soft ones may cost a bit more, not sure. And, while I'm also not sure just how long this promotion will run, you can call 417-546-2011 for details!

Update: Dec 4, 2016 - The special was still ongoing and gaining in popularity.

A menu cost increase at Charlie's?

Charlie's is a very clean up scale eatery!
Forsyth MO. - As a aging senior with an expanding waistline, I profess to enjoy eating out as often as possible. I also try and make an effort to visit some of the local restaurants in the small town of Forsyth as I feel the hardworking men and women who work there deserve my patronage and support!
Steak and eggs. Was $7.99, now $10!

One of my favorite eateries is Charlie's Steak, Ribs and Ale located at 139 State Highway Y, not only because of the great job the kitchen does in preparing constantly excellent meals, but also for the very excellent treatment I have always received from the very professional serving staff. On this day, my server was the beautiful Lisa Davis who was a blur of efficient motion and a pleasure to watch! As a result, Charlie's has been frequented by me on numerous occasions over many years.

But, I had to admit that it was with some shock to discover that some menu items had been increased by double digits on a recent trip to the Forsyth location! And, while I'm sure that the ownership had very good cause to raise their prices, I was forced to wonder why their popular steak and eggs menu offering deserved a 20% increase? I questioned this because I'd recently written a short post on how beef prices were headed downwards in 2016 (see Beef prices moderating in 2016 post)!

In spite of that move and the decision not to offer free refills of coffee, I do plan to continue eating there even if it will be on a more infrequent basis. Charlie's IS one of the cleanest and most up scale venues in the area, in my view!

CORRECTION: I was wrong about the coffee refills - they are FREE according to one of the employees, Shannon Henery, who also soundly corrected me on Face Book!

UPDATE: Beginning on Sunday, November the 13th, this restaurant will become smoke free.

Beating the cost of eating breakfast out!

These days I like to eat out, especially for breakfast. There's something about rising early and then going over to a favorite eating emporium and then sitting down to a big plate of steak, hash browns, toast and eggs! The thing is, that sort of lifestyle comes with a price!

Where I like to go to eat breakfast, in my small town located in southwest MO, is a place called Charlie's. They serve up one heck of a steak and eggs platter that I really enjoy eating! The trouble is that the cost is around $8. Add a drink and a tip and you've spent a good dime. That fact, and the high calories, were not very agreeable with either my wallet or my waistline....

OK, sure. The steak ain't that thick!

So it was, I decided to see what I could whip up in a similar vein, that might also not totally kill my diet! Here is what I came up with, and at only $2.41. It fit in with what I was trying to accomplish.

You will note that I did not include the traditional hash browns for a number of reasons. Not the least of which was it was a high calorie fried in oil kind of addition!

At left was a quick look at the breakdown of this meal a deal. At 421 calories, this did fit in nicely with my diet plans while still giving myself a chance to enjoys some of the foods I love!

Charlie's Steak, Ribs and Ale!

I've frequented Charlie's Steak, Rib's and Ale for a number of years now. It's located at 139 State Highway Y in Forsyth, Missouri (417-546-2011) and just like the name sounds, features good old American cuisine.

When you step inside Charlie's you might immediately notice that you've entered an upscale eating establishment where the staff helps to keep the premises as neat and clean as can be. Charlie's has both a smoking and non-smoking section and feature a fully stocked bar complete with a micro brewery that give the patrons a choice of home brewed light and dark ales! On most days, an attractive woman named Brandy can be found managing the bar. When she's not there, oftentimes her son, Niko fills in and does a great job. The atmosphere is professional and yet fun as you never know who is going to pop in.

The restaurant serves up a full menu of items including meals suited to breakfast , lunch and dinner. I've had occasion to eat a number of their breakfast offerings including the Works; a platter
The Works!
containing eggs made your way, a choice of meats, toast and hash browns! A great way to start ones day for under $6!

Lunchtime items include a wide variety of choice items, including the ever popular hamburger and fries! Want something different? Charlie's offer up a wide range of sandwiches and sides to satisfy most anyone's lunchtime desires. You also might want to check out the specials that are offered during thew week. One very popular choice is the steak platter that contains a thick juicy steak, potato, roll and salad, all for under $8! Folk! It just doesn't get any better than that!

Bottom line! Please stop in and give Charlie's a try. And, if you happen to live in Branson, there are three other sites there as well! One of them is called CJ's located at 2001 State Hwy 248! Please stop in and say hi to Jenny!
