Subway offers a 6" Cold cut sandwich that is one of my favorites for about $3.75! Sadly, by the time you add in some chips and a drink you'll likely be over six bucks! And that cost was one reason, I sometimes like to make one of these up at my home. Sure, my sandwiches are nowhere as pretty as the commercial ones are, and I don't add in stuff like cheese. But, I feel that when you count the cost savings, that they are ever bit as tasty!
For this particular lunch, I elected to have a bit of deli coleslaw and a dab of three bean salad. Nutritionally, I came up with this:
For a 'beverage', I selected a glass of water with some Crystal Lite added that cost just a few pennies! All thing considered, that was not too shabby a meal deal!
Some political commentary, a little science & reviews on fast food and maybe a few songs! Got a problem with that? OK, so I'm an acquired taste...

Subway Cold Cuts knockoff!
As much as I love going to Subway to
eat, I don't always have the time or the cash. To fix that, I purchased some of the ingredients at my local grocery and made myself a
homemade version of their Cold Cuts sandwich at home!
Now, while I only had a few
ingredients, I made do as best I could. Here's what I had to start
with:
Sliced roast beef
Sliced ham
Romaine lettuce, shredded
Hot pepper rings
White onion
Mayo
Shredded cheddar cheese
1 Bolillo* roll
I began by slicing the roll long ways,
laid it open face on a rack in a convection oven set to broil and
then sprinkled it with some shredded cheese. I then set the oven and
waited about 2 minutes for it to brown the surfaces and melt the
cheese.
Next, I removed it from the oven and
added a layer of meats followed by the peppers and onions. Lastly on
went a layer of lettuce fallowed by a slathering of mayo. This baby
was then ready to eat!
The taste was great, the calories livable
and it was easy to make to boot!
Note: A bolillo (Spanish pronunciation: [boˈliʝo]) or pan francés (meaning "French bread") is a type of savory bread traditionally made in Mexico. It is a variation of the baguette, but shorter in length and is often baked in a stone oven.

Subway re-visited!
My chances to visit my local Subway are pretty few. As I don't prefer
to eat alone, I have to wait and snag the one of two friends who also
like the sort of food they serve. On this day it was my buddy Dan
Danielson, a gnarly ex-Seal who also has a taste for their six and
twelve inch creations. Me? I prefer the six inch cold meat combo that been
toasted! That and a bag of chip and a diet coke and I'm good to go!
Ever since the untimely departure of Jared Fogle as Subway's
spokesman due to personal deviate sexual problems, I'm sure that this
fine company has been on the lookout for someone to replace him. In
that spirit, I've sent them photos of me 'before' and 'after', but
only got the response that I looked somewhat fatter – not true! I'm
large boned is all....
Needless to say, the food at Subway's is healthy – although not
quite the great diet food everyone is always talking about. My little
meal came close to 600 calories! Whoa Nellie! Frankly, I could do
better at McDonald's if I stayed away from the burgers and fries
section! That said, the meal is filling and very tasty. Just
the sort of fare everyone hopes for when they dine out.

The Subway in Forsyth MO!
It had been quite a while since I had
last set foot in the Subway located in a small strip mall near the
town of Forsyth, Missouri. I only came back because a friend who I
bought lunch for, to me to meet him there.
The first thing I noticed was the sign
that read 'Under new management'. At least, I think, I saw a sign
that read that! In any case, I appreciated the brisk way in which the
staff located behind the counter moved the sizable crowd along. When
my turn came, I ordered the Cold Cuts Combo 6” sub and can attest to
the great taste and freshness of the ingredients. I can also attest
to the fact that this establishment was one of the cleanest I've ever
visited!
The bottom line – a great venue to go to to eat, in my
opinion, and I do plan to go back on a regular basis! Video to come!
Coming soon, I bring a family of Hawaiian natives to this venue!

Subway serves breakfast??
You can call me old, even call me slow, but please never call me late for any meal!

Pictured above is the Steak, egg white and cheese offering that comes in at about 430 calories. I've no idea of what the cost might be, but I plan to post a followup with pictures just as soon as I can drag my overweight ass over there!
Update: I tried calling the Subway n Forsyth MO and it rang for a long time with no one answering. I'll give them another try in a couple of days.
