Coleslaw I actually liked!

Forsyth MO. - After searching for years to find a commercially prepared coleslaw that I could actually tolerate, I cam across a 15 ounce container made by Reser's. It was located in a cold case next to Deli counter at the Country Mart store in Forsyth. It sold for three dollars and change and was pretty darn tasty!

Sonic still a pretty good deal in Forsyth MO!

When compared to some other fast food joints (McD's comes to mind), Sonics located in Forsyth MO is still a pretty good deal!

I stopped there on Thursday, October the 10th and ordered an All American Dog along with a medium order of fries. I like this location, not only for the fair prices (my meal cost only $4.75 with tax), but also for the fast and efficient service.

Come 2020. we all need to pull together!

As good or bad as everyone's life experience might have been, these last many years. Things can get worse. Is Donald Trump the savior of a Nation? I'm not sure. A Representative Republic is very difficult to endure, over time. The Founding Fathers knew that all too well. Still, all things considered, I've had a pretty good ride. But, all good things will end... Me? I'm more than happy to fight to the death for the generations that follow me....  https://youtu.be/zLqqHGy0pc8

Area parks looking good! Shadowrock, Empire Park and River Run!

Empire Park aka Osage beach
Shadowrock & River Run
Forsyth MO. -  A drive through three local parks on April the 5th under hazy skies, light winds and mild temps (65°F) was a pleasant experience early this spring 2019. I visited Empire District Park on Y Highway, Shadowrock Park off Highway 160 and it's sister park across Bull Shoals known as River Run. And while work
was going on to renovate the showers and bathrooms at River run, Shadowrock was up and running and was filling up with RV's! I had the impression that a good number of the people I say at both locations were fishermen taking advantage of the mild weather. The water levels were near normal levels at 659 feet and rain appeared to be limited for the next couple of weeks, so flooding was really of no concern.

So now would be a good time to get down and enjoy all of these wonderful locations. You can reach the park attendant by calling (417) 546-2876 to see about reservations in Shadowrock Park. River Run, when it opens, can be contacted at (417) 546-3646.

Those changing demographics confuse me!

Forsyth MO. - As of the last census, taken in 2016, I noted some interesting racial stats;

Population   2, 373
White          2,100
Hispanic        151
Two+              64
Asian              27
Black              22

Of that number 96% are citizens leaving 4% or about 95 who are non-citizens. I had to wonder how almost a hundred men and women were walking around our town as undocumented people? How do they get to the grocery store of a doctors office? A puzzler that...

A Charlie's Thanksgiving in Forsyth MO!

It was November the 26th and a Thanksgiving fever had gripped the land! Everywhere I looked as I entered Charlie's Steak, Ribs and Ale located in Forsyth MO, I observed hungry patrons completely violating sensible dietary standards. And, I was about to join them!

On this day, Charlie's or C's as I like to refer to this venue, was offing a Turkey Meal for just $9.99! As you can see in the picture, it was a really full plate that contained an estimated gazillion calories. Fortunately, I had worn my sans a belt stretch waistline slacks just for that occasion.

Unfortunately,  when I arrived, I had lost my appetite - however I did sit with friends and watched them chow down on what looked to be a great feast!

Pool noise...

I'd recently moved to a condo, known locally as Taneycomo Terrace, located in Forsyth MO. After much time spent moving in and on what promised to be a blistering hot day in late July, I made my first trip to the pool located in the back of my building.

10:12 AM - Under clear skies, with towel in hand, I approached the locked gate with some trepidation; after all, I had never used my 'pool key' and had doubts as to exactly which key on a string of keys I carried to use. After trying four keys with no luck, I happened on the correct one and I was in!

The pool was empty at that early hour, so had my pick of any deck chair and quickly picked a semi-recliner next to a circular table. I'd just placed my stuff on the table and had settled into the chair when over a nearby hill came the grounds keepers! There were two of them. A man by the name of David and a lady who answered to the name Kat. Like two moths attracted to a flame, they zeroed in on myself with mower blades a chopping and weed whacker strings a whirring. Thankfully, a fence that surround the pool area prevented them from charging right into my lap! David got as close as abut five feet away, throwing grass blades this way and that as he doggedly worked the same area over and over again. The noise levels made napping all but an impossibility, so I contented my self with sipping on a Pepsi and eating a small bag of Doritos. Yet, for some reason, I found it difficult to relax....

Eating at a Deli is an experience!

Earlier today, I had the unique opportunity of dining at Deli's! This avant guard open isle restaurant is conveniently located inside a grocery store (who would have thought) and is the place to be seen on any given day in the busy metropolis of Forsyth Missouri. Garden Capitol of southwest Missouri!

As the lines form up early, I made sure to be among the first through the doors on a Sunday in April. Even so, I found myself waiting impatiently, while an older gentleman in front of me, ordered up the last of the link sausages for his grand slam meal! At only $4.99, you get scrambled egg like food mixed into an order of biscuits which themselves are literally swimming in a sea heavy gravy bashed up against a rock hard tube of hash browns! There's also a choice of meat, but as you can see, I had to settle for the bacon!

Seating at Deli's is also rather limited and I had to settle for standing with one elbow propped up against the glass of the meat display will attempting to spear a forkful of biscuit into my mouth. This met with glaring disapproval from the lady chef – let's call her Shelia, but I stood my ground (ahem) and ate quickly as the paper plate was threatening imminent collapse.

Deli's is open daily from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM after which it reverts back to being a plain old deli where you can order coleslaw and slices of turkey before heading over the the Produce Department. (I understand there is a lunch crowd, but have never seen anyone actually eating, just a few older gents sipping coffee from time to time).

Cost of food in April 2014!

Here was the cost of some select items found at a local grocery store in southwestern Missouri in mid April 2014:

Bell pepper .99 ea
Carrots .99 per lb
Celery 1.29 a bunch
Potatoes 2.99 for a 5lb bag
Onions 1.49 per lb
Lettuce .99 ea
Romaine 1.89 ea

Chicken 3.11 per lb
Hamburger 3.69 per lb
Pork chops 5.49 per lb
Steak 11.99 lb – KC Strip

Vegetables and meat are due to rise due to 1) the continuing drought, 2) rising oil prices which affects the cost of fertilizers and in the case of meat, the fact that cattle herds are at the lowest numbers since 1951! And, as in the title of song by Bachman Turner Overdrive, – you ain't seen nothing yet!

Notes: When compared to some of the cost of produce back in 2010, the prices have not risen all that much. Sadly, that is not the case with meat!
