Watching Hillary will be fun!

When crooked Hillary gets elected (and she likely will), events will ramp up in at least one area – comedic media coverage!

Hillary, as portrayed by comedians such as veteran Kate McKinnon, and who does such a bang up job on Saturday Night Live, will have great material to work with over the next four years! That is, if the Hill can keep from being impeached! In that event, it would be Tim Kaine's turn to really shine for all the left to enjoy.

No matter what happens, Hillary will be entering into office during an interesting period in our Republic. With International countries on fire, the border bulging with eager refugees and a bankrupted government, she will certainly have all sorts of opportunities to mess up! I personally cannot wait to see just what Mother Hillary does! And sure, it will be hard to see her progress as she does most things under the cover of darkness or behind closed doors, but that's politics! No matter what her methods, she will almost certainly begin by raising up the black man to his 'proper level and standing' in the world. Well, that was a major campaign promise, was it not? That trick I just gotta see....

Then, there is the border thing, as Bush the younger might say. All them tens of millions of refugees who were practically guaranteed to be able to cross en masse, with the promise of free food, housing, education and health insurance. Why, I'd bet my horse that coming on January 21, 2017, they'll be standing 20 or more deep on the southern borders, just waiting for her acceptance speech! And that would be another good chance for media coverage, I'll tell you!

In short order, after the illegal's invasion, after the great stock market crash and after World War III had begun, there will also be a great chance for SNL to parody Hillary's escape from the US as tens of thousands of angry voters chase her sorry ass...

I'm leaving a stick built home for life in a condo? WTF?

As an aging gnome of diminishing intelligence, I recently decided to shed my turtle's carapace of a long held ranch style structure for a much smaller, and cozy condo adobe.

Forsyth, MO - It's mid 2015 – lots of stuff going on in my Republic and the small town in which I dwelled ( or hid), or so it seemed to me. Uncertain times all around my world, (if one were to watch the news at all). The times it seemed, they were a changing. Nothing I watched on the media channels (Fox mostly), gave me any cause for long term expectations.. and so I thought to downsize. To find a place that better suited to both my collapsing lifestyle and financial future... more to come!

Bull Shoals Lake – Now one large septic tank!

A picnic site lies peacefully below...

Miss-management due to government incompetence is widely known and almost an accepted fact these days. And, it would seem that even our water ways have not escaped their fumbling touch!

Forsyth, MO – The Bull Shoals lake level stood at 692.55 feet on July the 15th, 2015. That level was about thirty feet over what it is during a so-called 'normal' season. The interesting fact is that rainfall over the region has been only about nine inches more than is average at this time of year. With no real release being recorded at the Arkansas dam, the water is pretty much sitting stagnant, which will make it a great breeding ground for mosquitoes as we progress on in to the summer.

What's needed, in my opinion, is some real leadership at the state level. Not some bureaucratic bunch of Washington yahoo's who are clueless, deal making liberals.

Cost of eggs skyrocket!

Back in the carefree days of the mid-sixties, a dozen eggs could be had for about fifty five cents! As a kid, I enjoyed them scrambled, sunny side up and as a key ingredient of French toast! Those sure were the good old days! and, as time has gone by, eggs and egg products have made their way to become a center piece of many breakfast foods (think Egg McMuffins)! But listen up Gerty! I want you to grab a hold of your garters - them days are long gone!

Even before the crippling effect that Avian flu has had on the poultry industry in recent months, the cost of all this poultry have gone way up! What cost a few pennies in 1965 now cost a few dollars and things are going to get worst... much worst, as the loss of millions of hens begins to impact the food industry in earnest this fall! A single large egg going for a buck may not be far off! And, experts also warn that as the cost of one 'meat' goes up, then so will the other popular meats including pork and beef. But, that's OK - our boys on Capitol Hill have everything under control....

The psychology of weight loss!

I think I've now been on enough diets, over the years, to at least qualify myself as a novice in the art of losing weight! Whether it's been hi-carb, lo-carb or no-carb, I've pretty much tried them all. And, losing weight is definitely not rocket science – if you eat fewer calories than you burn you will lose weight! It's basically just that simple. [Of course, a little bit of exercise will work wonders in terms of speeding things up]. In theory, the more you work out the larger your weight loss will be by the end of the day. Plus, if you are consistently hitting your goals as far as to how much you eat, you will be forcing your metabolism to make up the difference by burning off fat. It's amazing how that works..... in theory!

Easy for me to say, but that's not all of what dieting is all about, is it? Very few of us approach a diet in such a purely mechanistic or robotic manner. No, I've found that it's usually an emotionally charged affair that is generally the result of some sort of trauma, (like waking up one morning and seeing your stomach proceed you into the bathroom)! Or, it might be more dangerous issues like heart disease or incipient diabetes! And, sometimes your doctor may inform you that it's all three – a sort of grand slam, thank you ma'am your damned kind of deal! That's because when a person takes on too much body fat, the stage gets set for all sorts of bad things to begin happening over time, none of which are very pleasant!
-----------------------------------

Let's take a real world example of what I'm talking about. I have this friend who I'll call DanO. He's a middle aged male who stands about 5'10 inches and who supports a medium frame. DanO should ideally weigh in at about 170 pounds, but sadly, he does not. One fateful day, when he happened to weigh himself on a dust covered scale, in his bathroom, he was shocked to find he suddenly weighed in at over 200 pounds! My-o-my, he thought, how did that happen just before heading on out to McDonald's for a Big Mac and then maybe a nap because he was always so damn tired...
-------------------------------------
OK, I think most of us can see there's something wrong with that picture. You see, DanO's heart was also struggling to carry that extra thirty pounds of weight where ever he went. What's worst is that there is also a 'lifestyle' associated with weight gain and in DanO's case it was all bad news. When he tried to exercise, he found that he quickly tires out. Well, who wouldn't? Try this experiment on yourself to see what I'm talking about. Grab a knapsack (you do own a knapsack don't you)? Then fill it with 30 pounds of whatever is lying around. (Rocks work great)! Once you have your sack filled to the proper weight, go ahead an sling onto your back and then go about your daily routine. I'll bet you a dollar to a creme-filled dough nut that before very long (20 minutes or so) you'll become very tired of carrying that damn thing around! Yet, our boy here has been doing just exactly that for years!
So you see, old DanO has found himself in somewhat of a quandary. His now sedimentary lifestyle encourages allow him plenty of time to overeat and any exercise he would contemplate never materializes. Yes, our fat friend DanO has found himself in a deep hole with no idea of how to climb out! What to do?

OK, so the hole you've found yourself in may be pretty deep, but you can get out of it! Just understand that a some things will have to change before that can even have a chance to occur. First off, on day #1 of your diet effort – Plan to shit can your current lifestyle (it ain't working anyway) and get serious! To accomplish this, you'll need to build yourself some sort of a framework to help get your fat little ass out of that deep hole you made for yourself over the years!

At right, we can see that DanO's diet hole is pretty darn deep! He's down there all by his lonesome with a only pile of numbered blocks for company. After a looking at them for awhile, he begins to arrange the objects in a way that might help him to climb on out.... Let's take a closer look....

Block 1 – The Foundation Block

The bottom most block that DanO selects represents the foundation of the his diet plan. I also like to call this the 'Planning Block' because before anything else can be put in place, you must have a master plan of what the end point or dietary goal will look like. That is to say you have to have a set of milestones, that once in place, will represent a kind of structure that can be followed to a preferred destination.

Block 2 – The Food Block

A core issue to successfully losing weight is gaining a firm handle on just what your unique Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR is. This is the number of calories you'd burn even if you stayed in bed all day long! This site can help you quickly figure out what your BMR is. In DanO's case his was 1,760. Next we need to take that figure and see just what your daily caloric intake requirement is. For this I like to use the Harris Benedict Equation which is a formula that uses your BMR and then applies an activity factor to determine your total daily energy expenditure (calories). DanO figured that he was in the 'lightly active' category (perhaps he's an optimist). Therefore, his caloric calculation would be (1,760 x 1.375) or 2,420. That is to say that if he eats 2,240 calories a day, he would just maintain his weight. DanO wants to lose at least a pound a week, so he figures that since a pound of fat is approximately 3,500 calories, then one seventh of that (or 500 calories) would have to be subtracted for a total net daily intake of (2,420 - 500) or 1,920 calories a day! So now DanO boy has got himself an 'eating goal' he can shoot for!

Block 3 – The Tracking Block

Now that DanO knows what the total calories are that he can eat in a day, he will also need some form of tracking program that will help him relate the foods he likes to eat with what they represent in the form of calories. He browses the Internet and selects a program call Fit Day (although he noted that there were many more good ones out there). This easy to use software program has everything anyone needs to formulate and track a safe and effective weight loss program. It tracks what he eats and how much he exercises and presents easy to understand reports that show how much progress he is making towards achieving his goals. Wow!

Block 4 – The Exercise Block

This block can be a real toughie for many of us. It being the second to the highest block to put into place, and thus will require a lot of effort to get it up there. And, you know what? That's precisely what exercise is all about! It's a prolonged period of hard work that will require lots of commitment and sweat over an extended period of time! It does have a good end-point, however. Once your body adjusts to the new routines, your metabolic rates shifts into a higher gear and as it does so endorphins start to be released. In short, these substances that are produced by the pituitary gland as a result of exercise act like opiates to the body – that is you begin to feel really good!

Block 5 – The Final Piece

OK, the edge of that mean old hole is in sight and DanO has only one more piece to put in place before he can crawl on out! But, this piece is a tricky Dick! If laid flat it won't quite do the job, but soon DanO discovers that if it's angled just right he can shimmy on up and escape. Later on, he realizes that this worked because now he is a lot lighter and more muscular due to all the previous work he has done in order to get to that point on the pile.

Congrats my boy...you've made it out and are now ready to resume your life!

Will the Corps be caught in a wringer?

May 25, 2011 Powersite Dam
It's never much fun for a man to get his 'appendage' caught in a wringer, but that's exactly what could happen to the Corps of Engineers if the weather suddenly goes south, (in my opinion).

As of this posting, the lake level at Bull Shoals was posted at 667.14 feet above mean sea level as of 6:00 AM CST. That was about three feet higher than it was to start a month that had seen just 1.5 inches of precipitation in the area since the 1st! In addition, year to date rainfall was just about average based on historical numbers. So what gives? Why is the water level almost to the point of flooding out some popular parks that exist close to the Bull Shoals waterway? Very good questions, aren't they?

Homes on Taneycomo side of dam
My personal theory, and please understand it is pure speculation, is that the Corps has been withholding water at the Bull Shoals Dam near the Arkansas border in order to give farmers on downstream the ability to max out their arable lands. This, to the detriment, of some folks living between the Taneycomo and Bull Shoals dams on up stream. Not a good thing if found to be true. Another intrusion by a Nanny government who thinks it know what best for everyone. But wait! Things just might get worst!

With the 'pipe' plugged at one end, any exceptionally heavy rain that might fall will rapidly change thing from sorta bad to much worst, for everyone! Take the months of April and May in 2011. Everything was fine, lake levels were normal and then towards the end of the month the rains began to fall. Wham-bam, starting on April the 23rd, we got hit with two and a half inches of water from the skies! Then the next day, another 2.4 inches fell. On the 25th, over three inches. As a matter of fact, from April 22, 2011 to the 29th – 9.1 inches of rain were recorded, and everyone knew that that the water levels were going to rise... then the early May rains arrived! Another two inches hit between the 1st and the 3rd. That came to about a foot of new water over much of southwest Missouri and northern Arkansas in just a couple weeks time!
Shadowrock Park on the left!

In 2011, many many people who lived near the Tri-Lakes waterways were impacted by all that water. Any back then water levels were 'normal' at the start of April. Can you just imagine the effect of that much rain over a short period of time with things as they are now? You know, maybe there is something to the fact that when the new bridge goes up just to the east of Forsyth that will replace the one built in the fifties, it will be even higher up than the current one! A bridge that was built, back then, by the Corps and which was supposed to be flood proof!

FDA pushes forward with flatware imitative!

Backed by an increasingly progressive Obama administration, the FDA announced and executive action that will force restaurants to use only plastic flatware that is government approved!

Billed by the FDA as  safer and fairer , the special 'dark colored' flatware will be available for purchase, this fall, from select government outlets.

Already termed ObamaWare by an incredulous Congress, the regulation which was passed behind closed doors and without congressional action is sure to be a thorn in the sides of restaurants everywhere. Reid accused the Republicans of obstruction and then cited something about Bush as the reason they wouldn't go along with such a sensible move.

I spoke with one popular restaurant chain, Dan Obenski, who related that his 300 plus sites were going to have to raise prices 'across the board' in order to shift to the all plastic flatware. 'The fact this flatware can only be used once and then thrown away will vastly increase the cost of food to our customer base', related a frustrated Obenski.

Spokesperson, Josh Earnest stated in a press conference that Obama also planned for a new wing to the added to the FDA that would focus on a host of new and progressive regulations for the restaurant industry. When asked by the media if this would cripple an already ailing private sector, he merely shrugged...

Other legislation that is being considered by Obama would the be elimination of all tips as he feels there is 'too much shenanigans going on' with lost taxes due to under-reporting. A vast new group of special inspectors would be created all across the Nation to roam restaurants to 'make sure there is no infringement'. God bless Obama and his Progressive Left!

Yes, this was a work of pure fiction, yet with all the crazy things coming out of Washington these days.... who knows! Next thing you knows they'll want to outlaw backyard grilling... what's that you say! That one's true! see http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/backyard-bbq-emissions-targeted-in-epa-project/article/2561474

What! Another pasta meal!!

Yeah, it seems that Wednesday is going to be another spaghetti day! That's especially true when you have leftover sauce that needed to be used up!

When it comes to spaghetti (or any pasta for that matter), and in spite of the bad nutritional press it gets from time to time, a moderate amount on your plate ain't all that bad for you. Here's some facts:

Carbohydrates like pasta provide glucose, the crucial fuel for your brain and muscles. Pasta is an excellent source of complex carbs, which provide a slow release of energy and thus have a relatively low glycemic impact. Unlike simple sugars that offer a quick, yet fleeting boost of energy, pasta helps you to sustain energy, and that's a good thing. In addition, pasta is very low in sodium and is cholesterol-free! The only rub, in this meal-a-deal, was the garlic bread. I used a mix of butter and garlic salt which makes it a big no-no for anyone with high blood pressure! And that potato! It was a very small potato. Almost a child potato for crying out loud! I like to eat them as they offer a very high level of essential amino acids. When added to a glass of milk, this 500 calorie meal offers up all the essential amino acids a body needs to function properly!

So, the bottom line is to watch the portion amounts as that's what can get a guy, (or girl) into trouble.

Update: August 2015 and I went from 196 pounds down to 178! Of course there was a lot of sweating involved!

Hilliary losing credability?

Hillary Clinton failed to quell mounting criticism over her controversial private email account on Tuesday evening after her office suggested she had erased more than half of her emails before turning them over for release to the American public.

In a statement released after a press conference intended to end a week-long controversy, Clinton’s office said that she did not preserve 31,830 of the 62,320 emails she sent and received while serving as Barack Obama’s secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.

“After her work-related emails were identified and preserved, Secretary Clinton chose not to keep her private, personal emails that were not federal records,” her office said, in a defiant nine-page explanation for the unusual arrangement that has put her under political fire.

Republicans accused Clinton of blocking transparency. It could not be confirmed whether the deleted archives included messages sent and received by Clinton relating to her family’s philanthropic foundation. Donations to the foundation by foreign governments and corporations are the subject of a separate ongoing controversy.

Breakfast of us ordinary people!

No matter what you age, IQ or walk of life - getting a decent breakfast is one of the more important tasks that face all of us just about every day!

If you've heard about or read the 'Breakfast of Champions, a 1973 novel by the American author Kurt Vonnegut, then you'd know it is the story of 'two lonesome, skinny, fairly old white men on a planet which was dying fast.' I thought of this novel this morning because I identify so much with one of the characters, Dwayne Hoover, who is portrayed 'as a normal-looking but deeply deranged Pontiac dealer and Burger Chef franchise owner'. And while I am neither a car dealer or franchise owner, I do fit in nicely with the deranged part.

The title of the book, taken from the well-known slogan for Wheaties breakfast cereal, crops up in a key scene late in the novel when a waitress, apparently ironically, says "Breakfast of Champions" each time she serves a customer a martini. Really, an interesting read by an equally interesting author! and, what does this all have to do with eating a good breakfast? What part of deranged did you not get?

Benefits of maintaining a diary!

For years now, I've managed to maintain a daily diary that focused mostly on the weather. I've done it to help me keep a record of what it was like in February, a few years back. A record, if you will, of one man traveling through life, leaving a few tracks in the temporal snow as it were.

I feel that by writing stuff down, it helps me to cope with some of the stresses of life by venting, even if that venting is only to yourself! We live in a very complex, technological and dangerous world that seems to be getting crazier by the moment. Weird topics that never came up, for me, in the eighties or nineties, now seem to be more the norm. Immigration reform, a nuclear Iran, ISIS terror cells in the US, an ineffective and leaderless government with regular be-headings thrown in for added effect.

In today's America, the nuclear family is history. Morality is now more of a concept as opposed a lifestyle and the word God is uttered less and less by a citizenry that I no longer recognize. More often than not, I now pack heat, lock the doors to my house when I'm away and now distrust many people and most governments in general. So, I have my diary to turn to... perhaps I'm a little like a male version of Anne Frank in that regard.

Rockaway Beach looking to boost image!

Outspoken critic, DanO Dingles of Forsyth MO was quick to jump on the chicken processing  and plucking plant concept recently put forward to the City of Rockaway Beach as a potential solution to their sagging image in Taney County.

"Why, I think a chicken slaughter house is just was that town needs," remarked Mr. Dingles to this reporter. "I also understand that when that place ain't a killing chickens, it will be processing fresh fruit! Yeah, E. coli laden chicken carcasses mixed in there with fruit! Sorta sounds like a good idea to me." Meanwhile, the folks who were putting forth the idea at Tri-Lakes Orchard were not available for comment.

Climate change and the Voodoo mantra!

“It is the greatest deception in history and the extent of the damage has yet to be exposed and measured,” says Dr. Tim Ball in his new book, “The Deliberate Corruption of Climate Science”.

Dr. Ball has been a climatologist for more than forty years and was one of the earliest critics of the global warming hoax that was initiated by the United Nations environmental program that was established in 1972 and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) established in 1988.

Several UN conferences set in motion the hoax that is based on the assertion that carbon dioxide (CO2) was causing a dramatic surge in heating the Earth. IPCC reports have continued to spread this lie through their summaries for policy makers that influenced policies that have caused nations worldwide to spend billions to reduce and restrict CO2 emissions.

Man made climate change—called anthropogenic global warming—continues to be the message though mankind plays no role whatsoever.

There is no scientific support for the UN theory.

CO2, despite being a minor element of the Earth’s atmosphere, is essential for all life on Earth because it is the food that nourishes all vegetation. The Earth has passed through many periods of high levels of CO2 and many cycles of warming and cooling that are part of the life of the planet.

“Science works by creating theories based on assumptions,” Dr. Ball notes, “then other scientists—performing their skeptical role—test them. The structure and mandate of the IPCC was in direct contradiction of this scientific method. They set out to prove the theory rather than disprove it.”

“The atmosphere,” Dr. Ball notes, “is three-dimensional and dynamic, so building a computer model that even approximates reality requires far more data than exists and much greater understanding of an extremely turbulent and complex system.” No computer model put forth by the IPCC in support of global warming has been accurate, nor ever could be.

Most of the reports were created by a small group of men working within the Climate Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia and all were members of the IPCC. The result was a "totally false picture supposedly based on science."

The Keystone Veto?

Washington D.C. - The Keystone Pipeline -  The EPA has reviewed it for years and then approved it, 69% of Americans are for it, the Congress enjoys bi-partisan support and 40% of the damn thing is already built! America currently buys 7 million barrels of foreign oil a day. This pipeline would give Americans jobs and would make us a little less dependent on OPEC.

Yet...

President Obama stubbornly refuses to support this bill even though he has no basis to have an objection! Come on man, grow a pair and work with our legislators...

Obama Kicks The Oil Industry While They Are Down

The federal government is about to issue landmark regulations aimed at slashing methane emissions from oil and gas operations.

The Environmental Protection Agency's regulations could come along with several other federal rules that will impact the energy sector. In the past, U.S. President Barack Obama has trumpeted the extraordinary rise of oil and gas production under his watch. While he cannot take much credit for the oil boom, his administration did shy away from environmental regulations in his first term that could have slowed drillers down.

But with two years left in office, he no doubt wants to score some points on the environmental front for posterity's sake. And with no elections left to run for, and an unfriendly Congress in the U.S. Capitol, the executive branch may pull out all the stops.

To be sure, many of the pending rules have been years in the making, but with oil prices crashing, there is a smaller political price to pay for adding burdens on the industry. Gasoline prices provoke a visceral reaction from American voters. With retail gasoline prices safely below $3 per gallon, there is a much smaller downside for executive agencies slapping new rules on the energy industry. One of the biggest rules will be on methane emissions from oil and gas production. While the EPA punted on the rules until after the holidays, a decision is expected in January that could establish the first direct regulation of methane.

Fugitive methane is a massive problem for the country. Estimated to be 86 times more powerful a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide over a 20-year span, methane is a major concern for climate change. Not only that, but methane is often "vented" or flared into the atmosphere as an unwanted byproduct when producing oil. It is also released from a web of creaky old pipelines that crisscross the country. The Washington Post writes that a plume of methane the size of Delaware hovers over northwest New Mexico because of leaking methane.

According to the Institute for Policy Integrity , 7.7 million metric tons of methane escapes each year from energy operations, enough natural gas to heat 6.5 million homes. Fortunately enough, cost effective technologies already exist that could cut methane emissions, if and when the EPA decides to enforce the industry to use them.

But the energy industry says that new rules will "impose unnecessary costs and burdens on an industry challenged now by a sustained low-price environment," as Greg Guidry, a Shell executive, recently put it . In fact, drillers already have plenty of incentives to reduce methane emissions on their own, obviating any need for new regulation, an industry trade group says.

Methane rules won't be the only new regulations about to be placed on oil and gas drillers, as the Wall Street Journal explores in a recent article . The Department of Interior is set to announce new regulations on drilling in the Arctic, as well as new standards on blowout preventers used in offshore drilling. Interior will also finalize rules requiring drillers to disclose the chemicals they use during fracking on public lands. The Transportation Department will stiffen standards for shipping oil by rail.

Combined, the regulatory smack down could have a slightly chilling effect on oil and gas drilling. The rules could add modest costs for producers, making marginal drilling in the current price environment not viable. But it is important to keep things in perspective: it is the price of oil itself - falling below $60 per barrel in the waning days of 2014 - that is beginning to force drilling cutbacks. The number of rigs in operation continues to drop. The most recent data from oil services firm Baker Hughes shows that another 35 rigs were removed from drilling during the week ending on December 26, falling from 1,875 to 1,840.

While it may seem like adding insult to injury, low oil prices are providing President Obama much more political space for the federal government to finalize the suite of rules it is considering. While that may seem perverse to drillers who are watching their profit margins vanish, the threat of high gas prices has always made new regulation unpopular. That is no longer a concern for the Obama administration.

When is enough - enough?

America's youth...Never give up! Never surrender!

At some point in time, you realize that your scribbles as a blogger in the darkness that we call cyberspace is for naught. At that point, you might say 'enough' and then retire.... strangely, I have not reached that point! And, in 2015 I plan to move politically forward! Obama! You want a stalled Congress with no forward movement and endless gridlock?... I say, bring it on! As a blogger, I will continue to try and expose you for the shallow, elitist ideologue you really are!

The Regulation Nation!

What's the one thing this nation has way too much of?

Some might say politicians. According to a 1992 Census Bureau study, there were over half a million. And, while the bureau never repeated the study, it might be a safe guess to be talking a figure in the millions today.

What do all these politicians do... exactly?

They pass lots and lots of rules and regulations! There Federal regulations, State regulations, County regulations and even regulations specific to the town or city you live in being added daily. How many are there on the books today? Hard to tell. In an example of a failed attempt to tally up the number of laws on a specific subject area, in1982 the Justice Department tried to determine the total number of criminal laws. In a project that lasted two years, the Department compiled a list of approximately 3,000 criminal offenses. This effort, headed by Ronald Gainer, a Justice Department official, is considered the most exhaustive attempt to count the number of federal criminal laws. In a Wall Street Journal article about this project, “this effort came as part of a long and ultimately failed campaign to persuade Congress to revise the criminal code, which by the 1980s was scattered among 50 titles and 23,000 pages of federal law.” What's for sure is that you might breaking the law and not even know it! Let me go to a case in point.

From law-biding to felon in one small hop!

Example: Susie Simple lives in a small home where she had been supporting her grandfather right up to the point where he died. In the bathroom cabinet are a few bottles of prescription drugs that granddad used to take. All are considered controlled substances and now they are in the sole possession of Susie. Should her premises get searched by the police and the pills discovered – it's a Class C felony charge!

Boom! Susie has to post a 10K bond for which she ponies up a thousand dollars she doesn't have. She's told she has a 'bond hearing' in a few weeks and is advised that she might want to secure an attorney. Boom! There goes a $2,500 retainer fee for an attorney who will spend most of his time sitting on his butt. Susie makes it to court with her attorney and one of two things happen; a plea bargain reduces her sentence to a misdemeanor with a multi-year probation or the felony charge sticks (bad attorney) and Susie faces up to seven year in prison and a $5,000 fine! Congrats Susie! Boom! You are now a convicted felon and that title will haunt you the rest of your life!

OK! I know you're wondering, what are the chances? Well, it just happened to a friend of mine just a few weeks ago. Only, in her case, there was a creep boyfriend in place of a nice old granddad....

Things to look forward to in 2015!

Two and half more months of cold, icky weather!
Little to no greenery til April 2015!
Cyber attacks from China and Russia!
Stagflation and rising grocery prices!
