Some political commentary, a little science & reviews on fast food and maybe a few songs! Got a problem with that? OK, so I'm an acquired taste...

Charlie's in Forsyth to offer Lasagna?
Rumor has it that Charlie's Ribs, Steak and Ale located in Forsyth and Branson Missouri may be contemplating a new menu offering! As of this post, nothing is confirmed, but I did have a chance to sample a small portion and can report that the taste was awesome! Will this be a menu item in the future or even perhaps an occasional special? Time will tell....

Charlie's now offers crayons and paper to special customers!
It was the sort of day that offered nothing to excite or inspire me. You know, the kind of overcast and chilly fall day you often find in early December. So, it was that I entered into a local restaurant/pub in a rather somber mood.
When entered and then sat myself down at the well appointed bar, the manager came up to me and must have noticed my sour expression. 'Hey poopie lips', she intoned while pinching one of my cheeks, 'how about I bring you something special to raise your spirits?'
I looked up into her face. My puppy-like eyes wide open. 'Why gollee, Ms. Ngo, I exclaimed excitedly. 'That would be really swell!' Smiling, she turned and disappeared into the back area. I then sat there quietly with a dull expression on my face. Something I did a lot. The minutes passed...
Suddenly, the lady reappeared with a large sheet of paper and a bunch of crayons in a glass cup! My eyes lite up. She plopped both items onto the bar in front of me and implored me to 'draw something.' Cause I as a 'special' guy!
Well, the minutes flew by as I got down to work and focused my entire mind to the task at hand. Yes sir, I was going to make me a self portrait that maybe they could hang on a wall or something. Boy, was I ever excited. So much so, that an occasional 'yipping' sound would escape my lips. So, there I sat, drawing like a man possessed while 'yipping' with increasing frequency. (Heck fire, I was so engrossed that I failed to notice the other bar patrons quietly moving to more distant stools).
At long last, (like after about four minutes), I finished up. As I sat there looking at my creation, a final 'yip yip yip' escaped my lips. Boy, was I ever a proud guy! Then, after carefully replacing the crayons into the cup, I made my way over to that manager who was busy taking care of other customers.
While in line, waiting for her to finish ringing up a few nervous looking customers, I was jumping from foot to foot in boyish anticipation. I guess I might have also been breathing a little too loudly, as those same customers kept looking at me over their shoulders. Looking back, they had a sort of deer caught in the headlights expression. (Something I'd heard about, but never actually seen before).
Finally! She was done! I stepped proudly up to the counter and thrust my drawing into her face. 'Here lady' I remarked a little loudly. 'You can have this. Maybe you'll want to hang it on somewhere.' She glanced at that paper and said, 'Sure, I'll get right on that.'
Smiling broadly, I paid my bar tab and even left her a quarter tip. Yep. Charlie's is a great place for special people like myself!

Charlie's steak and eggs platter! Still, a great deal!

Forsyth MO. – It's fall down here in
southwest Missouri and the trees are just beginning to change color.
You'd think it would be cool too, but you'd be wrong! The weather guy
was calling for the temps to approach 90 degrees on this 17th
day of October! Wow! Anyway, I thought it would be a swell sort of
day to go have myself a steak and eggs platter at Charlie's Steak,
Ribs and Ale. (Actually most any day is a good day to eat at
hearty breakfast and I have the waistline to prove that)!

As I drove to the restaurant, I noticed
what a picture perfect day it really was. There was a wonder light
breeze with the air a very comfortable 74 Fahrenheit. The sky was
clear with just a light touch of high cirrus. And, when I did pull in
and exited my car, wonderful smells of food wafted on that breeze. My
stomach rumbled in response.

When I entered, I found about 8 to 12
other diners all seeming to enjoy their meals. I made my way to a
booth, sat down and was greeted immediately by Lisa Davis, server
extraordinaire. In my opinion, Lisa is the sort of person who can always make a nice
day even nicer somehow. She was there working all alone, but handled
her customers in a deft and professional manner, nonetheless. A cup of
coffee, quickly appeared, as if by magic.

Not really needing a menu, I ordered the Steak
and Eggs and Lisa recited the way I like mine from perfect memory.
'That would be rare, white toast, sunny side up for the eggs, A1 and
jelly for your belly, right? She asked me. 'Why yes, that would be
swell.' I answered back respectfully. And then away she flew towards the
kitchen.... What a woman!
In short order, (no pun intended), Lisa
was back with my order and I dug on in. The food at Charlie's is
always near perfect and that day was no different. And, at only $10
for the platter, you get a steak that is well over an inch thick,
loads of fantastic hash browns, toast and two eggs that stared and
seemed to shout eat me! Which I did...
All in all a great start to a great
day!

A Charlie's Thanksgiving in Forsyth MO!
It was November the 26th and
a Thanksgiving fever had gripped the land! Everywhere I looked as I
entered Charlie's Steak, Ribs and Ale located in Forsyth MO, I
observed hungry patrons completely violating sensible dietary
standards. And, I was about to join them!
On this day, Charlie's or C's as I like
to refer to this venue, was offing a Turkey Meal for just $9.99! As
you can see in the picture, it was a really full plate that contained
an estimated gazillion calories. Fortunately, I had worn my sans a
belt stretch waistline slacks just for that occasion.
Unfortunately, when I arrived, I had lost my appetite - however I did sit with friends and watched them chow down on what looked to be a great feast!

Area eateries offer a Thanksgiving meal!
As of this post, Thanksgiving was just ten days away! So, on Thursday, November 26 many folks will be sitting down to reflect. Traditionally, that means a table full of all sorts of wondrous food. Thanksgiving is a time to feast and to reflect on the good fortune we all enjoy in the land of the free. However, for many reasons, not all of us have the opportunity or the time to go to all the fuss and bother of creating a multi course meal for ourselves or our loved ones! Thankfully, (for those of us who live in the small town of Forsyth Missouri), there are some really great alternatives!
A few Forsyth area restaurants will be open to help make your Thanksgiving the best it can be! In this post, I'd like to mention a few that I'm aware of:

Charlie's Steak, Ribs and Ale - A very popular and upscale eatery that features a full service bar and plenty of seating space. Charlie's is offering a special Thanksgiving plate that will include; turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing and a roll! I'm assuming that there will also be plenty of gravy and butter to go with this wonderful feast! The cost is only $9.99 a plate and this wonderful meal is being offered from 11AM to close (8PM). For those who want to enjoy a good breakfast, Charlie's will be open at 7AM! Charlie's is located at 139 Hwy Y in Forsyth and they can be reached at (417) 546-2011 for inquiries.
The Frosted Mug - A venerable location located on Hwy 160 will also offer a Thanksgiving meal experience that has become a Forsyth tradition over decades! The Mug is a down home dining eatery that features a full service bar and great food. I understand they have a great Thanksgiving meal, but currently have no idea (417) 546-4149.
how much it will cost. They can be reached at
The Longhorn - I eaten at the Longhorn over many years and have never been disappointed with the food or the clientele. This venue is a Forsyth favorite with fast service and great tasting food hallmarks! The eatery is located at 16039 US Hwy160 and can be reached at (417) 546-9751. I've been told they have a great meal for $9.99! Call them for the hours this meal will be available.
These kind folks who are giving up their Holiday in order to serve you, are very special people. Please make sure and tip them to the best of your ability!

A chili from hell!
Some people like their chili on the
warm side, others prefer it pretty hot... and then there are those
few who make a true Chili from Hell!
The head cook at Charlie's Rib Steak
and Ale, located in Forsyth Mo, is very good at what he does. David
is his name and grilling is his game! But, David it seems, has a 'hot
side' when it comes to making chili for himself and his friends...
And no! You can't buy a bowl of this sort of
stuff at Charlie's – when they do serve chili, it's mild and
seasoned by the book!

Charlie's Steak Ribs & Ale! A true eating experience!
After I read an article in the
Washington Post about how the government is about to reverse itself
on it's 40 year stand against eating cholesterol-laden
food, I decided to revisit a local eatery which serves up a great
Steak and Eggs platter!
On what was a cold morning in mid
February, I arrived early and chose a booth near the back of the
establishment. (Actually, I was told to sit near the back...
something about my appearance evidently scares young kids). I ordered
the steak and egg platter and firmly told the server that no, I did
not want it as a take out...
I ordered my steak rare, my eggs runny
and everything hot – 'just like I like my women', I joked to the
wide-eyed server who I think was named Leesa. She grabbed the menu from my hands and hurried off
at a pretty good clip. I then busied myself by arranging my cell
phone, charger and camera into a neat pile on the table. It crossed
my mind that I hadn't received a call on that phone – ever. Perhaps
I needed to have it checked out....
Before very long, my food arrived and I
dug in forthwith. (The server lingered near my table and eyed me with
what appeared to be a look of slight revulsion. Perhaps it was my rather
quirky style of eating that she was taking note of). This conduct, however,
made me not a little nervous and so it was really not my fault when a
good hunk of egg fell of my fork and landed squarely in my crotch! As
I attempted to scrap it off my pants, I thought I heard a twittering
sound coming out of the server's mouth, who then quickly turned and
left the area... I resumed eating in much the same methodical way
that a cow chews his cud.
Well, I can tell you my readers, that
the food tasted pretty darn good! In short order, I had consumed
every morsel on my plate and (just as they do in the Middle East to
signify a contented stomach), I belched as loud as I could. Sadly, I
doubt that anyone heard as strangely, the entire area where I was
seated was devoid of customers. (Over in the distance, I could see
other tables with patrons crammed together like sardines). Strange.
Yes, Charlie's is a great place to eat
and meet. And while, I've never seemed to connect with anyone there yet,
I'm sure that will change in the near term. After all, they even now
post a sign outside to notify everyone when I'm there!

The Works breakfast at Charlie's!
Charlie's Ribs Steak and Ale in Forsyth MO. serves up a full menu breakfast including the Works - a hearty breakfast offering that is still a good deal at $5.49 when I posted this in late April 2014. Sadly, I'm betting this meal, and others like it, will soon see price increases due to the rising cost of beef nationally!
