Ignoring the fact that physicists mostly all concur that each humans life is etched forever from beginning to end in space time, and the only reason we cannot clearly see the future and only dimly remember the past is the way the brain parses out events. We can only focus on an event horizon of the here and now, a bit of an illusion in of itself as there is really no here and now. The true connection to the past, in my view, is the sense of smell. No matter how dim a past event, I can always focus on the smell of that moment. The smells of freshly cut grass, the scent of a first love and that really bad meal you had in grade school, all help to focus our mind on days gone by. That said, our individual future are also there for us to see. And, that reality our minds close off with desperate hope.
